Selling tutoring is easy.
First register to Tutor (click here to learn more about registering) and then create a public tutoring Profile (click here to learn more about creating a great profile).
Then click on the Start Tutoring link at the top of any WeTutor page. This is the page where parents will contact you to start a live tutoring session. While parents can contact you through email when you are not on this page, you will need to be signed-in and on this page to conduct tutoring sessions or for any parent or student to contact you live through our chat tool.
While you are waiting for your first student, on your Start Tutoring page you can open your practice Virtual Classroom. Click here to learn more about using the virtual classroom.
WeTutor also provides marketing tools that you can use to invite your existing tutoring students to find you on WeTutor and to market your tutoring services to new prospective students. Click here to learn more about these marketing tools.
You can charge any hourly fee you want, and that a parent will agree to.
The total fee for a tutoring session will be calculated based on the number of minutes purchased. For example, if your hourly rate is $40 and the session is 45 minutes, the total fee will be $30.
Also, the fee displayed in your Profile is only your suggested fee. You can always agree to a different fee for any session or with any student.
From your Profile page, a parent can email you (to your account email) or, if you are signed-in, use our live chat tool. In addition, you can display in your Profile a phone number or instant messaging username.
All tutoring happens in the WeTutor Virtual Classroom. The classroom offers learning tools, such as document sharing and an electronic whiteboard, and communication features, such as video and audio chat. Click here to learn more about using the classroom.
No. You do not need to download or install any software to use WeTutor. However, if during a classroom session you want to share your computer screen, you will need to install a small and safe browser plug-in.
First you should create a tutor Profile page, which parents can find by searching our tutor directory. Click here to learn more about creating a great Profile.
Once your Profile is ready, WeTutor provides you with a number of marketing tools for advertising your tutoring services. Click here to learn more about using these marketing tools.
Only parents can initiate contact a tutor or starting a tutoring session. From your Profile page, the parent will need to click the Request Session button to launch the fee confirmation and classroom features. To do so, you will need to be signed-in to WeTutor and have your Start Tutoring page open.
After a parent starts a tutoring session, the timer on your Start Tutoring page will display the elapsed time of the session (meaning the actual number of minutes from start to finish) and the agreed-to total fee and number of minutes. The elapsed time continues until you or the student (or parent) clicks the red stop button to end the session. You or the student can also pause the elapsed time at any time by clicking the yellow pause button.
To end a tutoring session, you or the student (or parent) should click the red stop button on the payment timer. You can separately end and close the classroom at any time.
After a tutoring session has ended, the parent needs to click the Complete Purchase button to pay you. This will open a secure payment page where the parent can pay you directly by credit card or by PayPal transfer. WeTutor payments are processed by PayPal, which has more than 100 million users worldwide and is a leading payment processor. A parent does not need a PayPal account in order to complete a purchase.
Your payments from parents will be deposited directly into your PayPal account. To accept credit card payments from parents (and not just PayPal transfers), you will need to be sure to create a free Premium or Business account with PayPal rather than a basic Personal account. If you need to upgrade your PayPal Personal account, click here – it only takes 1 minute and is free.
At the end of the session, the parent will also have options described below for changing the fee or paying later.
If a parent is not ready to pay at the end of a tutoring session, the parent may click the Pay Later link at the bottom of his or her Payment Timer area. The parent will need to return to your Profile and complete the purchase within 5 days of the session. Until the parents completes the purchase, they will not be able to purchase another session from you.
At the end of a tutoring session, a parent can ask you to change the total fee. This is useful if the session ended early or late. To change the fee, the parent needs to click the Change the Fee link at the bottom of the Payment Timer area, and then enter a new fee. You will then be able to accept or reject the proposed new fee.
A parent can only use this feature immediately after ending a session. For example, if a parent clicks Pay Later or if you are no longer online, the parent will not be able to change the fee through the Payment Timer area. In that case, either you or the parent could contact WeTutor if an adjustment is necessary.
If a parent signed up during our “first session free” promotion, the parent does not need to pay for his or her first tutoring session. At the end of that session, the parent should click Pay Later or simply sign out, and then, within five days, WeTutor will directly pay you directly for the session (up to $70).
WeTutor allows parents to file a complaint only if they believe that their purchase should be waived because (1) there was a WeTutor system error, or (2) you failed to provide tutoring substantially as promised. Parents are required to provide a written description of the problem.
After filing a complaint, parents will not be required to pay for the tutoring session pending resolution by WeTutor of their complaint. If WeTutor determines that the complaint is valid, the transaction will be canceled and the parents will not owe you any fee for the session. On the other hand, if the parents fail to provide a legitimate explanation, or if WeTutor determines that the complaint is not valid, the transaction will be upheld and the parents will be required to pay you the full fee incurred. In such case, the parents will not be able to purchase another session from you until they have paid your outstanding fee.
For sessions sold on or after May 15, 2009, WeTutor charges its tutors a commission equal to 18.9% of the session's sale price. For example, if you sell a $100 session, our fee would be $18.90. These fees help cover our cost to market to new parents and to operate WeTutor. We will bill your total commissions at the end of each calendar month.
Yes. Parents will rate you before completing their purchase. Your ratings will be displayed in our tutor directory and on your Profile. Please contact us if you believe any rating that you have received is unfair or incorrect.
