Registering to Tutor
What do I need to register?
WeTutor is committed to following tutoring best practices. As a result, WeTutor only allows U.S. classroom teachers to tutor through WeTutor.
To register as a tutor, you must:
- Complete our registration process, including identity verification
- Provide and verify a personal work email address from a U.S. school (for example, jill.smith@school.edu) (Can I change my email after registering?)
- Provide a PayPal Premier account (Why?)
Do I have to use a work email?
While you must register using a work email (confirming work emails helps us verify teacher eligibility), after registering you may change your email to a personal email. Go to the Account Info tab on your My Account page to change your email. Please note that we will always keep a record of the original work email that you used to register.
Does it cost me anything to register?
No, it is completely free to register with WeTutor. There are no registration fees, no connection fees, and no monthly fees, nor are there any fees to be listed in our tutor directory.
WeTutor will only charge you a small commission when you sell tutoring. During our pilot period, we are waiving this commission. Also, PayPal may charge you a small additional fee when you receive your tutoring payments from parents (click here to learn more about PayPal's fees).
Why do I need a PayPal Premier account?
We require a PayPal Premier account, and not just a Personal account, so that your students' parents can pay for tutoring with a credit card (without needing to sign up for PayPal).
Signing up for a PayPal Premier account, or upgrading your Personal account, is free and only takes a few minutes. If you already registered with WeTutor with a Personal account, be sure to upgrade to Premier before having your first tutoring session.

WeTutor works with PayPal because it is the fastest and safest way to receive online payments and has more than 70 million accounts worldwide.
What is identity verification?
The major credit card associations provide an AVS service (Address Verification System) that can be used to verify the name, address and credit card information of any user. WeTutor uses this system for both parent sign-ups and tutor registrations.
To conduct an AVS check, WeTutor requires that you provide information for a credit card or debit card. WeTutor uses this information to verify your name and address, which may include authorizing and voiding a small amount to your card. After AVS is completed, WeTutor does not store your card information.
Identify verification helps ensure the safety and security of the WeTutor community.
Should I use my home or work address?
You should use the address associated with the credit or debit card that you provide in the identity verification section of our registration page. This is necessary in order to pass our identity verification measures. As a result, the address you use could be either your home or work address.
