Finding and Contacting a Tutor

How can I find an tutor?

You can search for a tutor on our Find a Tutor page or on the WeTutor home page. You can search by any combination of grade level, subject and/or keyword. And on your search results, you will have additional filtering options so that you can find your perfect tutor.

How do I decide which tutor to buy from?

After searching for a tutor, your search results will list matching tutors along with information about their tutoring services (grades, subjects, available hours and fee). Click on the View Profile link for any tutor to view their complete tutor profile.

If you have trouble picking just one tutor out of your results, try contacting a few different tutors by email or telephone. Talking to a number of tutors is a great way to ensure you make the right choice. Based on research by leading education experts, we recommend asking a potential tutor the following questions:

  • Have you tutored other children with similar needs as my child? If yes, what did you find that worked and didn't work? Do you perform an intake or screening process to verify and further define the needs noted by my child's teacher?
  • How will you conduct your tutoring sessions? What features will be used in the WeTutor Virtual Classroom? What teaching materials will be used?
  • What length do you recommend for each session? How many sessions per week? How many sessions total to achieve my child’s learning needs?
  • What should my expectations be for success? How will I know if my child is achieving his learning goals?
  • Will you provide progress reports or feedback after each session (including by email using WeTutor’s tutoring Notes feature)?
  • How long have you tutored on WeTutor and elsewhere?
  • Do you have any references that I could contact?

What does NAIS teacher mean?

While all tutors on WeTutor are U.S. classroom teachers and have agreed to follow our tutoring best practices, some tutors teach at independent or private schools that are members of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and are some of the best independent schools in the world. For those tutors, we will indicate “NAIS” on their search listings and tutor profiles. The NAIS is an important partner of WeTutor and has helped WeTutor develop its tutoring best practices.

I've found a great tutor. What do I do now?

Once you've found a tutor, you should arrange a time with that tutor to have a session on WeTutor. At that scheduled time, you should open that tutor's profile page and sign in to WeTutor. The tutor's profile page will display all the steps necessary to arrange and start a tutoring session on the left side.

When you and the tutor are ready to start a tutoring session, you should click on the Request Session button.

The tutor will then ask you to confirm the price of your session. If the price is accurate, click Start Session. This will start the session timer and open WeTutor’s Virtual Classroom.
