Hiring a great tutor is easy. First find a tutor by searching our tutor directory. Click here for more help on finding a perfect tutor.
Once you pick a tutor, open your tutor's Profile page by clicking View Profile in your search results. All the steps necessary to arrange and start a tutoring session are listed on the left side of your tutor’s Profile page when you are signed-in. The steps are:
All tutoring happens in the WeTutor Virtual Classroom. The classroom offers learning tools, such as document sharing and an electronic whiteboard, and communication features, such as video and audio chat. Click here to learn more about using the classroom.
You will only pay the fee that you agreed to with your tutor. WeTutor does not charge parents or students any additional fees.
At the beginning of your tutoring session, you will confirm your session's hourly rate and number of minutes, and the total fee for your session will be automatically calculated based on the number of minutes purchased. For example, if the hourly rate is $40 and you purchase 45 minutes, your total fee will be $30.
At the end of your session, you and your tutor can agree to adjust the fee if necessary (for example, if the session ended late or early). See below for more information on changing the fee.
After you start your tutoring session, the timer will display the elapsed time of the session (meaning the actual number of minutes from start to finish) and the agreed-to total fee and number of minutes. The elapsed time continues until you or your tutor clicks the red stop button to end the session. You or your tutor can also pause the elapsed time at any time by clicking the yellow pause button.
To end your tutoring session, you or your tutor should click the red stop button on the payment timer. You should also leave and close the classroom.
After you have ended a tutoring session, click the Complete Purchase button to pay your tutor. This will open a secure payment page where you can pay your tutor by credit card or by PayPal transfer. WeTutor credit card and other forms of payments are processed by PayPal, which has more than 100 million users worldwide and is a leading payment processor. To complete a purchase, a parent does not need a PayPal account and can instead simply use a credit card.
If you do not see an option to pay with credit card, please remind your tutor to upgrade his or her PayPal Personal account to a free PayPal Premier account.
At the end of your session, you will also have options described below for changing the fee or paying later.
If you're not ready to pay at the end of your tutoring session, simply click the Pay Later link at the bottom of the Payment Timer area. As required by our User Agreement, you will need to return to your tutor's Profile page and complete the purchase within 5 days of your session. Until you complete the purchase, you will not be able to purchase another session from your tutor.
At the end of a tutoring session, you can ask the tutor to change the total fee. This is useful if your session ended early or late. To change the fee, click the Change the Fee link at the bottom of the Payment Timer area. You will be able to enter a new fee, which will then be sent to the tutor. The tutor can then accept or reject the proposed new fee. Please contact WeTutor if you have any dispute regarding a fee.
You can only use this feature immediately after ending a session. For example, if you click Pay Later or if your tutor is no longer online, you will not be able to change the fee through the Payment Timer area. In that case, feel free to contact WeTutor if you need to make any adjustments.
If you signed up during our “first session free” promotion, you do not need to pay for your first tutoring session. At the end of your first session, click Pay Later or simply sign out, and we will directly pay the tutor for your session (up to $70).
After a tutoring session, if you're not satisfied, you should contact your tutor and attempt to resolve any issues. If you and your tutor cannot reach an amicable resolution, you can file a complaint with WeTutor. To do so, click the File a Complaint link at the bottom of the Payment Timer area.
You can only file a complaint if you believe that your purchase should be waived because (1) there was a WeTutor system error, or (2) your tutor failed to provide you with tutoring substantially as promised. You will be required to provide a written description of the problem.
After filing a complaint, you will not be required to pay for the tutoring session pending resolution by WeTutor of your complaint. If WeTutor determines that your complaint is valid, your transaction will be canceled and you will not owe your tutor any fee for your session. On the other hand, if you fail to provide a legitimate explanation, or if WeTutor determines that your complaint is not valid, your transaction will be upheld and you will be required to pay your tutor the full fee incurred. In such case, you will not be able to purchase another session from your tutor until you have paid your outstanding fee.
Yes. Before completing your purchase, you will need to rate the quality of the tutoring session with one of three ratings: Positive, Neutral or Negative. Your rating will be added to the tutor's overall rating which appears in our tutor directory and on your tutor's Profile.
No. You do not need to download or install any software to use WeTutor. However, if during a classroom session your tutor asks you to share your computer screen, you will need to install a small and safe browser plug-in.
